If I Was Arrested for DUI, Should I Accept a Plea Bargain?

|

Being arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) can be a very frightening experience. You may think, or the prosecution may lead you to believe, that it is in your best interests to take responsibility for your actions by accepting a plea bargain. You want to do what is right and yet at the same time, you want to do everything you can to avoid serious charges and penalties. In the heat of the moment, a plea bargain may seem like the most optimal solution. Let us reassure you that accepting a plea bargain without first obtaining legal representation is never advised.

We realize you may be worried about the potential consequences of your actions and we understand you probably want to put this situation behind you as quickly as possible. When you accept a plea bargain, it is usually in exchange for an admission of guilt. You have the legal right to remain silent and have a lawyer present during any and all questioning. Exercise that right. Do not give the prosecution the evidence it needs to obtain a conviction when we may be able to get the charges against you reduced or dismissed in their entirety.

Our firm has been successfully defending the rights of individuals accused of committing crimes in and around Savannah for more than a decade. We have a comprehensive understanding of DUI laws and first-hand experience with both sides of the criminal justice system, as our lead attorney spent time as a prosecutor for the Atlantic Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office prior to opening Schneider Lerch Bronston, LLC. There are numerous strategies which we have used successfully to help clients avoid conviction in DUI cases and we will work diligently to help you do the same.

Even if you fail a field sobriety test, register a 0.08% or higher on a breathalyzer test, or are led to believe the police have evidence of your guilt, a conviction is not guaranteed. Do not throw your life away based on a simple mistake or an error in judgment. Learn your legal rights. Find out the options available to you. Call our firm and get the aggressive representation you deserve from a Savannah DUI defense lawyer.
